Why a low carb diet is the best diet

One of the blogs i regularly follow is Big Fat Blog and today I read one of their older articles that was a very good post about why a low carb diet is so good for the human body. The thing that really struck me in the article was a 10 points that have been created by Gary Taubes (Good Calories, Bad Calories). It looks into several different points that I will try to go into in more detail here below.

Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease of civilization.

Every time you mention to people that you are on a low carb high fat diet people are concerned about your cholesterol levels and what you might have a heart attack from eating all that fat food. However there is still no real scientific research that shows that there is a connection between a low carb diet and the possibility to have a heart disease or a heart attack.

The problem is the carbohydrate in the diet, their effect on insulin secretion, and thus the hormonal regulation of homeostasis – the entire harmonic ensemble of the human body. The more easily digestible and refined the carbohydrates, the greater the effect on our health, weight, and well-being.

This is so true, for the other times I have tried to reduce weight I have mainly tried low calorie diets. My main food then was spaghetti, oatmeal and similar food. Even I was very low on calories I did not really notice any weight loss. However now when trying out a low carb diet instead the weight has just dropped off.

Sugars – sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup specifically – are particularly harmful, probably because the combination of fructose and glucose simultaneously elevates insulin levels while overloading the liver with carbohydrates.

Sugar has never been a natural food in humans when we were cave people. It is just in the recent 100 years we have added more and more sugar to our food. Also in the last 20-30 years it has become more and more industrially made sugar which we still do not know how that will affect us as human in long term.

The article covers many more reasons why a low carb diet is the optimal diet so tak a look at the article over at Big Fat Blog for more details.
